Driving Through Lightning Storms

Lightning storms in the distance

With each strike

We are in awe of their shapes and power

They strike left, right and center

It’s strange

We do not hear the thunder

Our paths converge

Soon a strike that is too close for comfort

Our awe turns to uneasiness

Uneasiness turns to fear

We continue forward

And try to chat normally like we always do

But deep inside its churning

Round and round

Our eyes are wide darting back and forth

Peering through the rain drops

Wishing for over there

Not right here

Where we are

As soon as it began

It also ends

And we shoot out of the storm

Into sunshine and clear skies

The lightning storm is now behind us

And again, we wonder why

We never heard the thunder
